Here is a question from Noelle. You may respond in the comments. She writes:
When you are attaching a newspaper.com obituary how do you do it? I consistently save it twice, 1) in newspaper.com and 2) through ancestry which links the family members as well.
What does everyone else do?
I've just been attaching them through Ancestry. When there are relatives listed, I link them to the relatives sometimes, but not always. If the children don't match up nicely, I just link the record to the deceased - like when the index lists in-laws as children. If there are children that I don't know about in the obit, I do add them to the tree with a link to the obit. Sometimes I just add info manually, like the daughters' married names. So I guess what I'm saying is that I don't treat them all the same. Perhaps I should have a more consistent method...?
ReplyDeleteI usually just save the obituaries once through the ancestry link and I only attach it to whoever's obituary it is and not to the family members (since sometimes the indexing can be incorrect about who is who in the obituary). But I look at the obituary and add relevant people and information to the tree if I don't already have that information.
ReplyDeleteI've been a little inconsistent too, but I've decided to try to attach the indexed part from ancestry and include linking the family members. But I only do this with the open obit on one screen and the index I'm saving on the other screen so I can read the obit and make sure the kids I'm adding to the tree are actual kids of my person (and not random names from the next obituary, or sons in laws, etc)
