September 2016 checking stats

In September, we checked 48 soldiers under our system. I've reviewed all of the checks, and I've tallied the number of differences. Some of these are errors, and some are judgment calls. Here are the categories and the total number of differences for each category.

GRID Errors

  • MILIN?/MAR? - 9
  • Missing HH member - 9
  • Duplicate people - 3
  • Wrong person - 3
  • Other - 5

Inferred Relationships

  • Incorrect relationships - 19!

Census Errors

  • Name - 53!
  • Typo/Reading/Wrong - 116!!
  • State Code - 4
  • Missing/Wrong URL - 0
  • Missing data - 72!
  • Additional finds - 32
  • Quality Code - 22

Death Errors

  • Typo/Reading/Wrong - 11
  • Missing data - 40!
  • Missing/Wrong URL/Source - 16
  • Quality Code - 2
  • Additional finds - 17!

Tree Errors

  • Missing/Incorrect information/relationships - 17

The total number of differences for all 48 soldiers is 448. This is 142 more differences than July, the last month we did checks. This seems really high. The number of differences for nearly every category increased. Part of that could be because six more soldiers were checked in September than in July. Some differences/errors affect the data more than others. If we checked other pensions, we'd probably find similar differences. Let's see if we can reduce these differences in October.
