Here is our weekly update for June 2, 2021.
We are preparing the data from Grands Samples A and B for
release and are wondering how we want to present it since the samples look
different and we had wanted to release it as one sample. Noelle’s suggestion
was to serve the data from the GEDCOMS but say that we have some additional
data elsewhere, including some death causes. Coralee could also put in dummy variables for
POW exchange period, POW non-exchange period, etc., or other dummy variables if
needed. The Codebook is not ready and
cannot be finalized until we decide on what the data will be and how we plan to
release it. Heather is currently preparing
link files, etc.
Currently the samples look different as illustrated below:
Sample
A data
·
Contains death screens for all grandchildren with the following information if available:
o
Name
o
Gender
o
Birth year and location
o
Death year and location
o
Burial location
o
Occupation
o
Death cause
o
1930 URL
o
1940 URL
Sample B data
·
Initially we did no death screens and attached
death and birth information to the tree in the GEDCOM
·
When we started collecting WWII draft cards, we
started entering death screens for all grandsons. So for all
the grandsons in Sample B, we input information similar to Sample A
above. We did not input anything for
granddaughters.
GEDCOM data for both Samples
·
Birth year and location
·
Death year and location
·
1930 and 1940 locations
·
Gender
·
Burial location
·
Name
·
Military dates and location for some
Note: The GEDCOM data would lack occupation,
death cause that the input data
has.
·
Draft cards
o
We are finished inputting draft cards for both
Sample A and Sample B.
