Wives of Sons and Grandsons

·         Everyone is back to working on the wives again after work was completed on the Urban set of 50 veterans. 

·         We’ve collected 7,743 wives of 7,102 sons and grandsons

Grands Progress

·         Coralee is working on the codebook and melding Samples A and B while awaiting word from Matt Nelson to see if he can help with 1940 and the full count merging.

MVCC Update

 

·         After completing an abbreviated version of the mil info to help while we were working on Urban, Giles is now focusing on creating a report function for the MVCC screens.

Urban

·         We have finished 40 of the 50 Urban veterans so far and have found 80 sons and 46 grandsons.  We will put all the numbers together when we are finished by the end of the week and will include how many have death dates, how many lived to 45 and time per grandson.

MVCC Progress

·         Giles has updated the relevant Stata scripts and the MVCC website so that mil info and census info from .dat files can be transformed into the grid in the MVCC system.  She has begun working on a feature to present the old mil info so that it can be accessed from the grid.

Urban Collection

With the Urban data uploaded into the screens and with the new ability to create the grid, Noelle is going back to input the obit information for the Urban sample of 16 veterans and their sons and grandsons.  With the census data now visible in the screens to help populate the trees, more death dates are being found.  We will provide an updated spreadsheet when the work is complete.

Urban Collection

 

·         Noelle has been working on researching/linking the Urban RECIDNUMS that Dora gave her to find death information. She is about half way through the list.

 

·         Coralee, Giles and Noelle are coordinating efforts to come up with a method to collect the urban death information. They plan to either collect it directly from the GEDCOM or upload the urban data from the original collection into the new database so that we can input data on the death screens. However, there are complications to both methods that they are working to resolve.

 

·         It is difficult to preserve the family relationships when the data is extracted from the GEDCOM without first assigning CHIDS to family members on the tree.  The problem is that the CHIDS come through the database which, to date, we have been unsuccessful at loading.
