Veterans buried at Arlington Cemetery

Here is some helpful information that Rachelle discovered.

The Nationwide Gravesite Locator no longer lists those vets who are buried in Arlington National Cemetery. Arlington Cemetery has its own website locator (ANC Link).  These are good sources to search for veterans if you don't have any luck on Find A Grave.

Noelle is back

Inputting ward information

We think everyone is doing this correctly, but we thought we'd send out a reminder just in case.

When you're inputting data in the "Ward" field, only input the ward number. If there is anything there instead of or in addition to the ward number, enter all the information verbatim into the total remarks field. You will still enter the ward number in the field even though you're typing everything in the remarks.

Please do not confuse precinct numbers with ward numbers. They are not the same. Only ward numbers should be entered into the field. Please type the number. There is no need to type "nd," "st," etc. If it says "first" or "1st"you may type "1."

Reminder about quick checks

This is just a reminder about quick checks. When you're doing a quick check, primarily focus on searching for no finds. If you have extra time, please spot check the inputting. A quick check should only take 60 minutes. When you get to 60 minutes stop checking.

ALWAYS input death information

I've had this question come up a couple of times.

If the soldier or his children die in a foreign country, should I input the death information?

The answer is YES. Always input all death information. We are a study on aging, disease and death, so it is very important.

Don't confuse this with the rule for census manuscripts. We only collect US Federal census data. If the soldier or his children lived outside the US, mark the appropriate decades on the grid as Not Searched. Save foreign or state censuses to the family tree.
