Here is our progress as of today, November 28, 2018. We have fewer than 1,000 Project 2 soldiers left to complete.

Here are the link rates for the soldiers and children in each of the three Project 1 samples. The link rate tells you how successful we were at finding the individual in the census or death records. As you can see, we did a pretty good job linking the soldiers and their children to their records.

Death causes

You are probably all already doing this, but I thought I'd write a post to make sure we're all on the same page.

When you find a death cause, please check if there are any other medical conditions besides those in the primary or contributory causes of death. If there are, please record them in the Remarks field. You can label them in the remarks using the label on the certificate. For example, if it says: "Other significant conditions," you may use that as the label.

As you can see, we're nearly finished with Project 1. Actually, several soldiers have been completed since I compiled this report. We should be able to finish data collection by next week (I hope by Wednesday). We have between 60 and 70 soldiers left to complete.

Please review your current Project 1 assignment. Let me know if you will not be able to complete it by next week (I understand that you will be giving me estimates). If you can't, I will reassign some of your soldiers to another inputter.

Don't worry, after we complete data collection, we will do some "data improvement" work. Primarily, we will be searching for death causes of soldiers, spouses and children for whom we have death dates. We might add additional census decades for these families as well.

You're all doing a great job. Thanks!
