WWII draft registration information

Note: Be careful for those who died in 1941.  Many who later qualified for the young men draft were not eligible for the original 1940 draft.  For example, someone born in 1902 was not eligible for the draft until Feb 1942.  So if he died in 1941, he should be marked D, not NF.

Note: There is some overlap for people born in 1897 and 1898, and some men who should have old man’s draft cards are found on young men’s draft cards.

STATES AVAILABLE:   All states, except Maine, are available on the Ancestry database.  Records from Maine were destroyed and were never digitized. 

OLD MAN’S DRAFT 1942:

STATES AVAILABLE: The following states do not have draft cards in the Ancestry database as the cards were destroyed without ever being microfilmed:

·         Alabama

·         Florida

·         Georgia

·         Maine

·         Mississippi

·         New Mexico

·         North Carolina

·         South Carolina

·         Tennessee

 

PROMBLEM WITH IMAGES:  Images from DE, MD, PA, and WV were microfilmed incorrectly at NARA.  Front and back sides are photographed together in one image but are not for the same person. The back side of the card for Person A is in the next image at the bottom for Person B.
